Senior ICT Category Manager
£39,000-£46,787 plus allowance of up to £7K depending on qualifications and experience.
Based Hanslope Park, Milton Keynes, MK19 7BH
At FCDO Services, we work with government customers around the world to keep people, information and assets safe every day. We do that in all sorts of ways, from secure construction of embassies, to secure delivery of diplomatic goods, to providing secure ICT for government bodies and government buildings worldwide.
As our Senior ICT Category Manager, you’ll support the Category Lead (ICT). You’ll help us ensure we have a procurement service that meets exceptionally high standards, in everything from hardware to software to licencing management. Whether it’s handling complex tenders or developing procurement strategies, you’ll help us build on a service that meets our customer promise: to be reliable, responsive, and build deep relationships in every project and service we deliver.
Manage tenders that take us to new heights
You’re brimming with experience in every aspect of tender management, whether it’s invitation to tender or planning evaluation matrices, selection questionnaire preparation or even running a mini-tender process. At the same time, you’ll also have a good understanding of the differences between private and public sector procurement work. Plus, you’ll be both realistic and excited about the boundaries and challenges faced by a public body like ours. This means you’ll be a trusted pair of hands to take us through the most complex of tender processes, finding suppliers who’ll help us deliver the very best result for our customers.
Bring technical knowledge and inspire a team
We’re naturally looking for someone with all the right qualifications and experience. For a start, you’ll have a CIPS qualification (or part-qualification or equivalent experience), as well as sound knowledge of ICT. But it’s about more than who you are on paper: we also need someone who can use their passion and people skills to inspire the team around them. Managing two other Category Managers, you’ll support and mentor them, sharing insights that’ll keep the whole team ahead of the curve. A clear communicator who can work well with colleagues and stakeholders alike, you’ll share your experience, lead with calm expertise, and encourage your team to grow stronger every day.
Create category strategy with impact across continents
In everything you do here, from tender review to interpreting market information, risk mitigation to performance reporting, you’ll be part of a team with rare impact. By helping to create our category strategy and helping the team to flourish, you’ll also be supporting our wider work to protect the UK’s interests both at home and overseas. You’ll support both UK and friendly foreign government bodies by using and honing the skills you already have. And as you do, you’ll find a meaningful role within a diverse, inclusive organisation, with all the benefits and pension that come with a Civil Service career. In short, it’s your job, bigger.
All our employees have to be security cleared before being appointed, so you will need to undergo a vetting process as part of your application. This role requires you to go through SC. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
Closing date for applications: Midnight 11th April 2023
It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world.
The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every individual, so that you always know you’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer. And a Stonewall Diversity Champion. And Employers for Carers. And it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.
