About Our Client
The B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Acute Hospital Alliance Procurement Service deliver procurement services to the following organisations:
- Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust;
- Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
- Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
- Community Sites within the B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board
- Sulis Hospital Bath (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
The team supports the development, implementation and delivery of procurement strategies and schemes through providing professional advice and guidance that positively reinforces and delivers financial and operational efficiencies, compliance to internal and external legislation and the use of innovative technologies whilst ensuring the patient and our colleagues are at the forefront of what we do.
The Team and the service we offer is expanding, with further reliance on regions to work more collaboratively to drive further financial efficiencies through economies of scales, but working with other like-minded organisations to change the way in which the NHS procures goods, services and works to drive further added value from new and/or current commercial commitments that are already in place.
The Team work across a number of national networks working collaboratively with partners in Bristol, Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford as well as larger collaborative functions such as the Peninsula Purchasing Supply Alliance (PPSA).
At the B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Acute Hospital Alliance Procurement Service, collaboration is essential and central to our decision making. Through wider collaboration, working with our clinical and non-clinical colleagues, we deliver economies of scale, better data sharing, best practice, remove unwarranted variation from our practices and supply base, to maximise value and efficiencies.
Job Description
The Head of Sourcing is a leadership role and part of the senior management team and is a strategic critical role, playing an important part in innovating the way in which Procurement provide a strategic sourcing service to all of our partners by promoting:
- Innovative and forward thinking procurement strategies;
- Collaboration within the health network across B&NES Swindon and Wiltshire to drive value from every £1 spent and pushing to remove unwarranted variation in clinical and non-clinical practice.
- Environmental, operational and financial sustainability with the aim of working hand in hand with our partners to deliver Cost Improvement Plans, achieve net zero carbon emissions and sourcing goods and services from responsible suppliers with the view of eradicating modern slavery from our supply chains.

The Head of Sourcing is pivotal to leading the Sourcing Team in developing BSW ICS wide category strategies that meet the strategic aims of our Integrated Care System and stakeholders, by delivering value through innovative sourcing process, robust contract management and efficient and cost effective supply chains.
The role is essential to building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across BSW ICS, as well as representing the Procurement Service at Board Meetings (locally and regionally), strategic and operational forums providing expertise and insights on delivering value for money whilst maintaining compliance with internal regulations and legislation.
The Head of Sourcing is empowered to lead a team of circa 25 people and own all elements of the sourcing cycle from Project Launch through to Implementation, navigating the Sourcing Team and stakeholders through developing procurement strategy, executing the category strategy, negotiating effectively with suppliers, implementing contract management routines as well as providing support and guidance to all.
The role is a key member of the Procurement Senior Management Team, providing feedback to the Senior Management on performance against key performance indicators as well as working with peers to continuously improve the Procurement Service on the whole through idea generation and challenging the way the service operates to ensure the service is always at the forefront of procurement innovation, techniques and technology.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will:
- Bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Senior Management Team
- Have broad experience in developing, delivering and implementing category strategies across various categories from both private and public sector
- Be experienced in advanced negotiation in a procurement/commercial role and delivering value through robust contract management
- Can demonstrate excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills
- Pioneer financial and environmental sustainability with a focus on implementing Social Value factors in everything we do
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to manipulate large sets of data creating meaningful and concise business insights that can be communicated to the stakeholders.
