Good relations with kit supplier for outdoors courses has given time back to college lecturers
Freshers’ Week activities at Scotland’s rural education centre SRUC used to involve the chaotic sorting of course equipment for the students. It took up a lot of time making sure that the gamekeepers had their wet weather gear, the equestrian students had riding crops and everyone’s branded polo shirt was the right size. Lecturers even had to get involved up to three months prior to registration. That changed when the college outsourced the procurement function to Guthries, and started to pre-prepare and individually pack the student equipment.
“Student issue has developed into a slick process now, and it is much simplified,” says Billy Connelly, corporate procurement manager at SRUC. “Although we still get the student who orders a size 30, but needs to change to 34 after a heavy summer.”
