Should we simplify tender specs?

Transport for London has eased tender specs to enable innovation and engage SMEs. We asked you if this is the way forward for large organisations? This is what you said:

“The question is will people within TfL engage with a new and smaller SME, or will they take the tried and tested route, with lower perceived risk, and stick to the companies they know?” Alan Haynes, Essential Energy 

“It’s good to see larger organisations take a pragmatic approach to reduce the barriers for SMEs. I would like to see SMEs encouraged more by the government to collaborate on contract opportunities to unlock further efficiencies.” Michael Angel, London Universities Purchasing Consortium

“I see that government’s initial target to spend £1 in every three with SMEs by 2020 appears to have slipped by a couple of years, so is this some intervention to help recover that ambition?” Colin Bidewell, Pathway Consulting Group 

“The perception is that procurement people aren’t there to help innovative SMEs but to ensure compliance. It will be interesting to see this in action rather than mere words.” Neil Fogarty, business psychologist
