Safety device or surveillance tool?
The StrongArm harness, strapped to a worker in the Geodis e-commerce fulfillment centre in the US, is connected to a device that buzzes if they twist or bend unsafely. Geodis is one of a number of companies – Walmart is another – testing such technology. StrongArm acknowledges worker concerns that it could be used for workplace productivity surveillance, but insists it is designed solely to improve safety, and points to a survey that found users suffer up to 50% fewer injuries.
