Big picture: creating supply solutions

As medical equipment shortages put pressure on hospitals innovative solutions are emerging.

Snorkelling masks from athletic retailer Decathlon are being repurposed for use as medical equipment at the Maria Pia Hospital in Turin. The gear has been fitted with valves and connected to a ventilator to turn it into a functional respiratory aid. The private Italian hospital, which has been converted into a specialist Covid-19 care facility, has been using these ad hoc devices due to a shortage of supplies.
