Jane Gibbs' first task at National Grid will be supporting the transformation of its purchasing department.
The former CIPS president is now head of procurement operations at the utility company. She was previously supply chain director at construction firm Rok.
Gibbs is responsible for a £1 billion annual indirect procurement spend, as well as budgeting and business planning for an 80-strong team. She anticipates that at least a third of her time will be spent at National Grid's US base.
The company wants significant improvements in its purchasing operations to help it save £350 million a year. As part of the programme, Gibbs told SM she will work closely with National Grid stakeholders and develop her team to become "best in class".
"National Grid offered me a great opportunity to join a transformation programme for procurement with real drive and direction.
"My task is to maintain the momentum of this programme, ensure savings are justified and signed off by the business units, and ensure we embed the skills within the team so that we have a sustainable model."
She added: "I am also responsible for ensuring the procurement systems and management information support the other procurement teams as much as possible."
