Transnet Engineering appoints former procurement chief as CEO

9 April 2015

Transnet Group has appointed a former head of procurement as chief executive of Transnet Engineering.

Thamsanqa Jiyane joined Transnet in 2001 and has worked as a procurement professional at three of the group’s divisions, Port Terminals, National Ports Authority, and Freight Rail, as head of procurement at the latter two.

At Freight Rail, he spearheaded a fleet renewal programme and came up with Transnet’s approach for the purchase of locomotives, which included a strong focus on localisation, supplier and enterprise development.

Jiyane, who also joins the group executive committee, replaces Richard Vallihu who has become chief executive of Transnet National Ports Authority.

A statement from the group said: “We are confident that Thami will advance Transnet Engineering’s efforts to become an original equipment manufacturer of global stature.”
