National Outsourcing Association 'fed up with negative media coverage'

27 April 2016

The National Outsourcing Association (NOA) has this week launched a campaign to improve the image of the sector following a series of high profile failures.

The NOA is aiming to tackle negative perceptions of the industry, drive improvements, and help the public sector successfully manage these relationships.

The campaign follows negative headlines around outsourcing including a High Court victory for Cornwall Council in December 2015, which allowed it to scrap a 10-year deal with BT after a number of costly contract failings.

Last October, the Ministry of Justice abandoned its procurement competition to outsource the collection of court fines after its preferred bidder, Synnex Concentrix UK, came under fire for its work tackling credit card fraud. Both instances came shortly after the NHS put the breaks on its own outsourcing policy after provider Serco was accused of providing poor service and manipulating data.

On Monday the NOA held a Public Sector Day for buyers offering training and workshops covering future trends, technologies and best practice.

Kerry Hallard, CEO of the NOA, said: “We’re fed up with all of the negative media coverage public sector outsourcing has been receiving recently: Cornwall County Council, the NHS and the Ministry of Justice have all been subject to it.

“As the industry association promoting best practice in outsourcing, it’s always very disappointing to see examples of outsourcing failing in such a manner, especially knowing the benefits outsourcing can deliver when properly implemented and overseen.

“The NOA is here to help rid the public sector of such failures – we’re doing everything we can to support our public sector and ensure it gets the utmost from its outsourcing.”
