Crisp prices in Japan rocket as potato shortage bites

A potato shortage caused by last year’s typhoons is continuing to affect supplies, with some brands of crisps being auctioned for four times the usual price.

The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) said Japan’s leading crisp producers had suspended or terminated a combined 48 product lines in April due to limited supplies of chipping potatoes.
