Australia’s competition watchdog has opened in-depth investigations into unfair contracts across several industries following the introduction of new laws governing contracts with small businesses.
The new business-to-business (B2B) unfair contract terms laws were introduced in November 2016. The legislation covers contracts where one of the businesses employs fewer than 20 people and the contract is worth up to $300,000 in a year, or up to $1m if longer than a year.
