The Indian government has announced Rs3.9tn ($59bn) worth of infrastructure spending in next year’s budget.
In his 2017-18 budget announcement, finance minister Shri Jaitley said the government would spend Rs550bn on railways and 3,500km of new lines would be commissioned. He also announced Rs649bn would be spent building highways with a focus on connecting port cities with remote villages.
