China announced it would cut steel capacity by 50m tonnes and coal output by more than 150m tonnes this year in an effort to tackle pollution and curb excess supply.
According to a policy document released at the opening of the annual meeting of parliament, China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said it would shut or stop construction of coal-fired power plants with capacity of more than 50m kilowatts.
