The height of a proposed bronze statue of South African president Jacob Zuma to be constructed in the country’s north-west province. Rumours that the statue would cost £420,000 were denied by the province’s government, which insisted that the opposition Democratic Alliance, which called the proposal a “national shame”, has got its sums mixed up. The statue, which could be erected this June, is intended to attract tourists to the town of Groot Marico, which already hosts an art festival and a mountain bike race.
