Inefficient ports that are widely perceived to be slow and expensive are holding back South Asia’s economic development, according to the World Bank.
In a report the bank said while the region’s trade has almost doubled over the last decade, the share of trade as a proportion of GDP is still smaller, at 47%, than in East Asia, where it represents 55%, and that part of the problem was the region’s container ports.
