VAT introduced in UAE and Saudi

Saudi Arabia and the UAE have introduced VAT as part of their plans to “wean” themselves off oil. 

Both countries have said the implementation of the 5% tax, applied to most goods and services, went smoothly, however Saudi authorities did report issuing more than 120 violations on non-compliant businesses in the first day.
