The Queensland government has failed in a bid to have faulty new trains exempted from disability laws, a move that would have allowed them to be used to carry visitors to the Commonwealth Games without legal risk.
The government had requested an exemption from the Human Rights Commission (HRC) because design errors make it impossible for wheelchair-bound travellers to use the bathroom facilities, in violation of international standards.
