A carbon tax has come into effect in South Africa with the aim to “incentivise firms to adopt cleaner technologies”, according to the National Treasury (NT).
The NT announced the first phase of the tax would come into effect from 1 June 2019 and run until 31 December 2022. The second phase will run from 2023 to 2030.
