A New Zealand firm that harvests an invasive form of seaweed highly prized among Japanese consumers has won a government grant to look at turning it into a premium export.
Wakame Fresh was awarded $75,000 of funding through the New Zealand Government’s Sustainable Food & Fibre Futures fund to investigate the commercial viability of creating an export industry for wakame seaweed.
