Strong winds have carried swarms of locusts towards the Horn of Africa threatening a repeat of the year’s earlier infestations and risking a devastating impact on food prices.
Ethiopia and Somalia are seeing new locust infestations due to extensive breeding, favourable weather conditions and rainfall, with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) predicting populations will increase further.
