New rail line will be 'backbone to support industrialisation'

A 326km railway line connecting the Nigerian industrial centres of Itakpe with Warri via Ajaokuta has finally been opened after a delay of nearly 30 years.

The line, which is the first standard gauge railway in the country, connects the Ajaokuta Steel Complex with a major source of raw materials at Itakpe, and takes finished product to the Onne Deep Sea Port in the outskirts of Warri.
