Expo 2020 Dubai has been named overall winner in the CIPS Middle East Supply Management Awards which was sponsored by Ivalua.
The team (pictured) behind Expo 2020 – delayed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic – swept the board, picking up awards for supplier diversity, supplier relationship management, risk mitigation, ethical procurement, and team of the year.

The winners were announced during a virtual ceremony hosted by Sam Achampong, head of CIPS MENA.
Achampong told SM: “We were very impressed by the high standard of entries in this year's awards, which celebrate the best of the procurement profession. The awards provide a showcase of what procurement can offer, not only in added value to organisations, but to society as a whole.
“The coronavirus pandemic has challenged businesses across the world, but it has also highlighted the vital work procurement professionals do to keep supply chains running. I hope the excellence demonstrated by the winners in the awards serves as an inspiration to others in the profession as they work to generate more value and resilience for organisations in a post-pandemic world.”
Expo 2020, which involves transforming a 4.38sq km site “from desert to delivery”, includes a AED27bn construction programme with thematic districts, public realm and Al Wasl Plaza centrepiece. It will be the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region and it is expected to boost economic activity by AED122.6bn. Economic activity during the Expo is projected to equal 1.5% of the UAE’s GDP.
