New $2bn railway to link Nigeria and Niger

Nigeria’s government has announced that Portuguese contractor Mota-Engil has won a contract to build a railway line between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger.

Transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi said the contract will link the northern Nigerian city of Kano with Maradi in Niger, as Nigeria attempts to modernise and improve its transport networks.
