Tanzania banks on new seeds to cut oil imports

Tanzania is a top 10 producer of sunflower oil but the country imports up 400,000 tonnes of cooking oil a year. The government wants to change that.

The Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) is hoping two new varieties of seedling can increase the country’s sunflower oil production and ease a shortage of edible oils.
