Toyota seeks to cut car production costs by 50%

Toyota Motor Corp is to invest JPY 1.5 trillion ($13.7bn) in developing and producing batteries as it looks to boost sales of electrified vehicles and hybrids.

The Japanese car giant said it also plans to increasingly localise supply chains as part of its drive towards carbon neutrality and enlist suppliers to help reduce battery cost.
