Apple procurement chief Tony Blevins to leave following inappropriate TikTok remarks

Apple’s VP of procurement Tony Blevins is reportedly leaving the company after making crude remarks in a video.

Blevins, who is known for his negotiating skills, was asked what he does for a living in a TikTok video about cars.

The executive responded by joking: “I have rich cars, play golf and fondle big-breasted women.”

Bloomberg reported that following weeks of discussion between Apple and its suppliers Blevins was now leaving the company. The decision was made by Jeff Williams, the company’s chief operating officer and Blevins’ direct supervisor. Williams is reportedly taking over Blevins’ duties.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Blevins confirmed the incident, saying it happened on 18 August. “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to anyone who was offended by my mistaken attempt at humour,” he said.

The video was a part of series in which TikTok user itsdanielmac interviews individuals in expensive cars, asking them what they do for a living.

Blevins responded by saying: “I have rich cars, play golf and fondle big-breasted women, but I take weekends and major holidays off. If you’re interested, I’ve got a hell of a dental plan.”

Bloomberg Markets: The Close reported that Blevins was known for his negotiating skills. He was described as one of Apple’s “most senior people” and part of a small group that reported directly to CEO Tim Cook.

“He did pretty much every major supplier or partner negotiation,” Bloomberg said. “Basically, driving down costs of components like cellular modems, cameras. He worked on the deal with GlobalStar to create the new satellite features for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. This departure is a sizable void for the company. He has been integral to the company’s success. He is known for his negotiation skills.”

In 2020 a Wall Street Journal profile described Blevins at the “Blevinator” who would “stop at little to get a favourable deal”.

Apple has been approached for comment.
