It’s the coffee break, there’s a sea of faces, you don’t recognise any of them but everyone else seems to know each other.
With the annual CIPS Premier Conference beginning on Monday night we thought now was a good time to address this challenge.
We asked Christopher Barrat, director of the Greystone Partnership, who is presenting at the event, to offer some advice.
He suggests six key tips to meeting someone or finding out something at a conference that could prove useful to you in future.
Work the room, show an interest in others, build rapport by matching their body language, find out who else they know, move on when the conversation comes to a natural end and follow up after the event to keep your network alive.
Do you have any other advice on how to break the ice? Any networking faux pas you want to share?
