Fun, frolics and Gordon Brown

7 August 2009
****STOP PRESS****. I am blogging on the non-recession. Yes, just when it seems that the recession has turned into easy news feed fodder, I deliver joyful news this Friday, as not only is it nearly the weekend, but I am also highlighting the positives of the recession. Even in the current economic gloom it seems most of us are prepared to put down our notepads and pick up our spades if my recent feature on three tourist attraction buyers is anything to go by. Center Parcs, Chester Zoo and Merlin Entertainments (the big daddy of Madame Tussauds, Alton Towers and nearly every other "fun establishment") all spoke of how visitors are flocking to their venues as people are taking ‘staycations’ and using their holiday savings to fund days out, rather than their annual all-inclusive Mediterranean holidays. Infact, holidaying at home seems to be what the cool kids are doing as even Gordon Brown has followed this trend, so perhaps it’s only a matter of time until we see him on the water-walker in Center Parcs. Forget about the PM - the big question we want to know is what have you decided to do this summer? Have you jetted out the country or are you making the most of good ol’ Blighty?
