War in Gaza

7 January 2009
Blog picAs the war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas rages on in Gaza, this report in the Sunday Times made interesting reading. It suggested Hamas' increasingly sophisticated procurement operations have enabled the group to launch hundreds of rockets into Israel, despite many of its offices and command and control centres being destroyed. The Hamas forces have built an underground tunnel system throughout Gaza, which it has used to covertly purchase and transport missiles from Iran and increase the production of its own rockets. A Hamas spokesman told the newspaper: “If the Israelis attack us, they will be surprised by fighters who will appear from underground to fight them with advanced weapons.”
