New employment projections ... and ways to get hired

17 March 2009
Today’s FT splashes on employment projections consultancy Oxford Economics is due to formally release tomorrow. The bottom line (or should that be headline?) is an estimate that more than 1 million jobs will go in the UK over the next two years. It’s tough times for jobseekers but perhaps we can learn a lesson from a fellow procurement professional across the Atlantic. Out of work dad of three Mark Hauer – who has a background in procurement management among other roles – took the unusual step of renting a billboard in a bid to find a new job. Perhaps he forgot to log on to the Supply Management Jobs website. Anyhow, Hauer’s very public method reportedly won at least three interviews. Have you heard of other off-beat job hunting tactics in the recession?
