Keeping up with the boss

8 October 2009

Nicolas Sarkozy has me worried. According to this story in the Daily Telegraph, ministers in France have stepped up their game to try and keep up with the president’s punishing workout regime.

According to one person quoted, this trend comes directly from the top. “The 'reassuring fatty' is over. The boss is sweating to lose weight. The others must rein themselves in too,” he says.

As the least fit member of the SM team, I’m a little anxious if this trend should cross the Channel. If eating healthily and working out are going to become a prerequisite of the modern workplace, I may as well join the end of the dole queue now.

I suppose this is not really anything new. How many workers have taken up golf, expressed an interest in experimental opera or something similar to impress their boss in the past?

How far would you go to impress your boss?
