This issue is all about excellence: who demonstrates it and how they got there.
We celebrate all the winners in the CIPS Supply Management Awards – a diverse range of organisations across the public, private and third sector whose work in some cases means the difference between life or death.
Collective collaborative working can achieve amazing results, as is proved by this year’s overall winners. It’s not the first time the champions in the supplier relationship management category – which showcases the achievements of buyer and supplier combined – have triumphed to collect the overall gong. It shows the whole really can be greater than the sum of its parts and together with your suppliers you can do more than acting alone. This example, between Selex ES and supplier REO, shows what can be achieved if a true partnership is established, however tricky that relationship might have been at times.
As well as the work of teams, the awards continue to mark the substantial achievements of individuals, read about what the CIPS procurement and supply chain management professional and young professional of the year did to scoop the accolades here.
For them and for all the teams that won, success shouldn’t just be celebrated on awards night. Ensure you communicate your improvements, efficiencies, progress and innovations to colleagues and peers all year round. Demonstrate and remind them of the value good procurement and supply chain brings – and keep up the good work.
The path to excellence was further examined at this year’s CIPS Annual Conference in the UK. This event saw hundreds of procurement professionals gather in London to hear how CPOs, CEOs and other business heads make and mark their achievements. It also looked at the challenges ahead – such as financial, risk and sustainability – and offered insight into how to overcome them. See some of the highlights here.
