Message from CIPS Chair, Paul Thorogood – have your say by taking part in our Member consultation

Over recent months we have shared details with you of proposed changes to ensure the continued success and modernisation of CIPS and its ability to continue to support its Members and the wider profession, globally.

Specifically, the aim of the proposed changes would be to:

  • increase alignment between the Global Volunteer Community and the delivery of the CIPS strategy
  • increase the voice of Members and its representation into the Global Board of Trustees, ensuring it is actioned appropriately by the CIPS Executive.

These proposed changes based on recommendations from the Volunteer Review and from which we are already seeing benefits, are not themselves governance changes.

However, these proposed changes do, as a consequence, require changes to CIPS’ governance.

The CIPS Global Board of Trustees would now like to consult with all Members on the proposals and the requisite governance changes.

It is important that CIPS Members are consulted and can help shape and modernise the Institute, so it is fit for the future.

Following the consultation, any changes would likely require CIPS’ Charter and Byelaws to be amended and approved by the Privy Council.

The final stage would be for Members, eligible to vote*, to confirm their acceptance of the proposed changes at a future Annual General Meeting (dates to be confirmed and communicated at least three weeks prior to the meeting).

As a CIPS Member, you are therefore invited to review the options and recommendations made by your Global Board of Trustees and select the option you feel most appropriate to achieve the above goals. The consultation will be open until 14 March 2022.

Warm regards

Paul Thorogood Chair, Global Board of Trustees
