The Chartered Institute or Purchasing & Supply(CIPS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). The areas of cooperation as outlined in this document, include:
Advocacy and lobbying towards enhancing the professional status of the supply chain management community within South Africa
Building on the already high quality of SCM qualifications at the TUT
Encouraging students to join CIPS Africa as members and to work towards obtaining MCIPS status
For TUT, this move is in line with the institute's commitment to work with relevant professional bodies and with industry to ensure that TUT qualifications are fit-for-purpose and the institute's graduates are job market ready. Prof. Neels van Heerden, Head of the Department of Marketing, Logistics and Sport Management also revealed that the titles of the TUT logistics qualifications offering – the National Diploma: Logistics, the B.Tech Degree in Logistics, amongst others – will change to Supply Chain Management to reflect their content more accurately, in the near future.
Head of Professional Development and Education at CIPS, Carin Stoltz-Urban said, “As the Professional Body for Supply Chain Management, we work with universities and other reputable providers to develop and promote high standards of professional skill and ability in purchasing and supply chain management. Our goal is to position this profession as a career of choice. The partnership with TUT will go a long way towards making these skills and ability easily accessible to young South Africans.”
