The procurement team at law firm, Clifford Chance has recently been recognised with a Procurement Excellence award from CIPS, the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, the largest global professional body for procurement and supply management.
CIPS Procurement Excellence Programme (formerly known as Corporate Certification) is an in-depth assessment process that measures an organisation’s procurement function against CIPS world-class standards. Achieving the Standard award demonstrates robust and effective governance is in place.
Clifford Chance is one of the world's pre-eminent law firms, employing approximately 6,000 people in 34 offices across five continents. With the appointment of a new Procurement Director, Chris Emberton, the procurement team set itself a new vision: to be the leading legal procurement team by maximising the value the firm derives from its suppliers. The team recognised that working towards CIPS Procurement Excellence Standard award would identify areas for improvement as well as strengths, and provide an independent benchmark of quality.
Danielle Ramsay, Senior Procurement Manager stated: “Completing the programme has allowed us to benchmark our procurement operation, identify our strengths and highlight areas of focus and improvement which we implemented as a team. We look forward to working with CIPS in continuing to champion excellence in procurement.”
Some of the process improvements implemented have led to a more agile and forward-focussed procurement department. The achievement also sends out a strong statement to the firm's clients that they are focussed on driving innovation and operational efficiency.
Commenting on the achievement, Patrick Glydon, Chief Financial Officer at Clifford Chance said: "This is a great milestone towards our vision of becoming the leading procurement team among our peers."
Alan Martin, CIPS Head of Procurement Excellence said, “Procurement within Clifford Chance UK has obviously gone through a lot of change over recent times. They have established a strong foundation that will allow them the flexibility to respond to future changes in the external environment, and continue to developtheir procurement teams, process and capabilities going forward.”
