The management team at global brewing giant SABMiller will use procurement as they key to extracting value from its $12.3 billion acquisition last year of Australian brewer Foster’s.

Cost savings would be gained from leveraging SABMiller's global scale to forge better procurement and supplier relationships and synergies from its Pacific Beverages arm, which was a joint venture with Coca-Cola Amatil but is now wholly owned by the company. Recently, SABMiller head of investor relations Gary Leibowitz outlined the thrust of the key changes needed to resuscitate the business that would centre on better relations with retailers and improved channel management.
